             2012 Rick Smith Spirit of Texas AwardJoe Grandee – A practicing professional artist since 1958, Grandee is known for his paintings depicting the American West. Early in his career, Grandee began amassing a collection of western artifacts that today rivals most museums. In 1971, Grandee became the first official State Artist of Texas (an award created specifically for Grandee). Mr. Grandee’s artwork has been showcased at the U.S. Capitol, the White House and even on the Johnny Carson Show.
